Why Preparing for Work?
Because of a lack of access to education and training, young people in the developing world often do not obtain the foundational skills needed to participate in family, civic and community life. There is a clear demand—revealed by Educational Quality Improvement Program (EQUIP3) and other workforce-related assessments—for training in work readiness, so-called soft skills, and work-related life skills, but there is little awareness of what resources are available. EQUIP3 also found that while there is a growth in interest and materials, implementers worldwide have had difficulty in finding out what is available, and knowing how to assess which materials are a good fit or could be adapted for their programs.
In response, EQUIP3 has developed this Web-based database of resources in work readiness and life skills for practitioners, implementing partners, and funding agencies. Preparing for Work aims not only to provide materials for youth work-readiness and life skills programs, but to consolidate these resources so they are immediately and easily available to compare, review, and obtain.
